Co-organized by the EEB, SDG Watch Europe, Counter Balance, and Eurodad, this workshop examines the European Union's Global Gateway Strategy (GG) and its impact on SDG implementation in the Global South. We assess the strategy's effectiveness in bridging financing gaps and mitigating SDG backsliding. Despite promoting economic growth, GG projects have raised concerns about negative spillover effects and transparency issues. Through diverse perspectives and case studies, we explore environmental, social, and human rights impacts, while discussing the underlying motives driving these projects. Our aim is to identify challenges and propose solutions to align GG projects with sustainable development objectives, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and public finance agendas.
